Thinking back to February...

So, just to go back in time for a minute...

I went to my regular doctor's appt. on February 8th and they found that Charley's heart was beating too fast, about 200 beats per minute. We were sent to the General hospital straight from her office. Once we were there they determined, after many tests, that he was suffering from an 'atrial flutter'. This is a very, very rare (only a handful of cases ever documented) condition where the atrium of the heart beats at about 400 beats per minute and the ventrical just tries to keep up, at about 1/2 that many beats.
For 2 weeks they drugged me up trying to get his heart under control and it worked a little. After 2 weeks though, they decided that he was big enough and far enough along to take him out. He was delivered by c-section at 8:45 a.m. on February 21st. He weighed 6 lbs and was 19 inches long. He was whisked away to CHEO right after birth and within a couple hours was 'cardio-verted', or defibrillated to re-set his heart. It fixed it right away and he's been fine ever since. Very, very scary though.
He stayed in hospital for a week in the NICU and I stayed there too.
It seems like a long time ago already, which is such a blessing. It's not a time I want to remember with much clarity. I'm just so thankful that were home and both healthy. The staff at the Ottawa general is amazing and I can't say enough good things about them.
Thanks to everyone for the support during February. It was really appreciated by our growing family.
Lots of love to all,
Lee
