Footie for Phil

While the following post may be enjoyed by anyone, it is specifically designed to incite a laugh from Uncle Phil.

____________

I've been holding on to these photos for a week, or so, waiting for the day I didn't have anything else to post. I knew they were HI-larious and hope you think so too.

We have a soccer field (ie: footie pitch) behind our house that provides a close and easy outing. With Gertie balls in tow, we headed out. (Gertie balls are just one of my favourite toys... If I get a chance, I'm thinking about doing a post a list of my favourite toys for all you holiday shopping parents).

Now, let me say that I'm not one to label my boys. At least, I try not to. But it would seem that we have one 'sporto' type and one 'lie-in-the-grass-and-daydream' type. Hmmm, can you guess who is who?

So after 32 seconds of running around with the ball, Charley had maxed out and spent the rest of the time in the park playing with his yoyo or whining in my general direction.

While this was going on, Chris and Sam were deep into a heated footie match.

By the way, did you know that Chris is quite competitive? (gasp!)

Here are some of the shots I caught of the live action. I think they speak for themselves:

Mad Skillz

Yeah! Eat that, baby!

'What just happened?'

Oh, that just makes me laugh. Sam shrieked with laughter during the entire thing, so I think he enjoyed his 'schoolin', but perhaps someone should remind Chris that Sam is 20 months old.

(I know Phil's saying to himself that Chris celebrated this hard because that's the only way he was going to score a goal. A-musing. )

I especially like this shot, because it has a nice example of SPEED ARMS which, I am devastated to say, seem to have been a short-lived phase. There's been no sign of them so far this week, so I'm extra, extra happy to have this video.

No, the SPEED ARMS won't help you this time, Sammy...

The boys and I are flyin' solo this week and next as Chris travels for his 'real' jobs. Oh yeah... them. Almost forgot about 'real' life.

That's all from here. Hope you liked your post, Unk Phil.

p.s. Did I mention that Phil's new apt is 30 seconds from our house?? Awwwwe-some.

Sigh...

So it's 4 days since the departure of Auntie Martina, and we're all still missing her. Yesterday, Charley said "It was very nice of Auntie Martina to build me a new track. And she has pretty hair." It was too funny.

She, being the photographer extraordinaire, took great pictures while she was here. Here is just a sampling:

The trainmaster:

The swinger:
How funny is this shot? It was a fluke to get such crazy lighting, with me under the porch light and the crazy moon in the background. We laughed over this one quite a bit:

And just for my mummy:
A Montana-y family portrait. There are others, but perhaps they will be printed and given to family folk in 6 weeks time...

Oh Martina! You are missed here. Hope the prep for the big dessert-y catering event is going well. We appreciated your test efforts here.
And thanks for all the photos of me. I think this is the most I've appeared on this blog since I started it.

Does this give you an idea?

The boys and I are very sad to have said goodbye to Aunty Martina tonight. She was a dream-guest... making treats, super-game for outings to anywhere and, at one point, I found her sorting laundry.

She also gave Charley the biggest laugh he's had this year:

This video followed about 10 minutes of this behaviour, which I'm sure you can tell from his delirium and hiccups.

Come back Martina!!

Halloween!

Too much to write now... We've been having the BEST time with Martina. She's been here since Wednesday and we've squeezed in a month's worth of fun.

More to come on that. Here are a few quick shots from today.

And at the end of the night:
Squeezing in some chocolate before bed. Good times.

So many stories and photos to post later. Hopefully this will keep you until then. Ta ta.

Rare occurrence

Today, with Charley and Chris off to their respective schools, I had one of those perfect moments with Sam.

He's is too funny these days. He's learning new words every day and loves to try them out. Say... 1000 times in a row.

He's fairly easy to understand (which makes a nice change from his brother), but there is one word with which he's taken some creative liberties.

It's not a hard word. It's 'dog'. I don't know what little synapse mis-fired when he 'learned' this word, but it's not exactly right. Or as Charley says "Oh Sam, that's not even close!".

In addition to capturing the mis-pronounced 'dog' in this video, I was also extra-fortunate to get not one, but TWO instances of SPEED ARMS.

Sam's quirkiness obviously extends beyond his creative dialoguing. He's very expressive, particularly in his movements. He does a lot of impromptu interpretive dance. He likes to start a gymnastics session in interesting places (most recently the library). And so on.

Now SPEED ARMS, which indeed must be written in all caps, is my favourite.

At some point, Sam decided that in order to ambulate more quickly he must develop a new move (SPEED ARMS) to accelerate.

I can only think that he's whooshing back his imagined cape when he does this. I told Chris that he could do this forever and I'd laugh every time. Chris declared that it would stop being funny at 18. I disagree.

And now, for your enjoyment: Mispronounced Dog and SPEED ARMS
(a series of words never-before joined).

Fish head!

Auntie Pat, who we were lucky enough to see in August, made these amazing hats for the boys. They wear them all the time (in fact, Charley was wearing his before the weather actually dictated it) and they always have people talking. Of course! It's not every day that you see not one, but two! boys with their heads being eaten by fuzzy carp.

I am a few months late in sending a thank-you card to Pat, but I hope that this post will please her. It's officially cold enough to wear them and they are in heavy rotation.

Thanks again.
