The slightly frightening news was the weight prediction. When I stated "9lbs" earlier, it was based on the fact that the average baby gains a 1/2 lb a week for the last month. All of this is true, except for the fact that I do not have an 'average' baby, which I forgot to consider. Because he/she is in the 95th percentile for age, the growth curve for a baby this size puts it at about 10 lbs at term.
Okay, now I'm officially fretting. Seriously, what to do!? (This is rhetorical... I don't want any comments from any smarty-pants who "joyously" delivered a 6.5 lb baby... you know who you are! hahahaha). I have to have another scan in a week or so to see if the growth curve keeps up.
Now, let me state how happy I am to have made it thus far and have a very healthy baby growing away. I've even made it through the Chinese New year, which means I'll have a rat baby (rather than a pig baby) which is supposed to be a great match for the rest of the family. (Maybe my acupuncturist is biased, since he's rat too?)
So, really all of this is wonderful news... don't think I don't know this.
That being said... I'm stating a warning today. Please note, kind reader, that the next person who makes a comment relating to "do you have 2 in there?" or "are you sure it's not twins?", etc. will be made to suffer. Punishment may include any of the following:
- Whatever object I'm holding being thrown forcefully at the speaker's head.
- If outdoors, I may use my newly-grown ballast to force the speaker into a snowbank.
- If I'm prone, and comfortable, it may simply be a voodoo curse that will cause the speaker to grow a belly of their own.
- ....?
So, consider yourselves warned. I promise you, there is only ONE baby in there. A large baby. I've seen it.
Here is a shot of me glamming it up for the camera. (Martina, how I can read your face right now!) Scary, I know. Amazing as it seems, I've not gained an ounce in weeks.
Here are a few other shots from the week. Granny Al is off today, and Chris is due back tonight.

I myself have no sarcastic baby-belly comments, but my very sweet mother said this: "Does anybody stare at her when she goes out?" You'd think you were the elephant man or something! Anyhoo, I think you look absolutely gorgeous!! You know how I love preggo bellies (and I bet you've remained stretch mark free, too)!
My mom says she feels bad for you because she thinks it must be very uncomfortable. Little does she know about all the pressure, her biggest baby was only 7lbs 12oz. (She really is a very sweet lady, honest!) I'm so happy you've made it this far and that Chris is coming home!
Congratulations mommy on reaching full term!! YAY!!
I can't wait to meet this little-big-one!
...I realize I should probably just pick up the phone and call you...
Lee, you're completely beautiful. I really, really think you should make a cast of that belly. In fact, I'm volunteering to come help if you're so inclined.
Charley is adorable and obviously all set!
Love him. Miss you guys. xx
I'm sure you pictured my face correctly! I'm glad I'm out of range for your violence, but what's a s n o w b a n k ? You look gorgeous and I can't wait to get the news that he/she is out and about! Also.. this just in... I may be in Ottawa in the spring for a photoshoot.. for real! Then I can finally see the clan in person.
