Poor Chris! He had an awful night of belly pain on friday night and ended up in the hospital for 2 days with a bowel obstruction. Yeah, just what he needed after having just come out of there. I guess it's not uncommon for this to happen right after the surgery, but weird for it to happen 2 weeks later.
Of course, when he left the house at 4 a.m. I was just lying there thinking "oh my god.. his intestines have burst open!". Now, I'm no surgeon, but I'm thinking perforated bowel = bad baddy badness. Luckily, the stitches held and the obstruction (hmm, a chip? a piece of lettuce?) passed and went on it's merry way.
Quite stressful, but over now. I hope it was a random event and that all is mending well. He's home, at least. Not a fun weekend for him, for sure.
On top of this, we're still having issues with Boy #1. Charley has been quite a wee misery since the arrival of Sammy. He's up in the night, screaming away and quite a handful during the day. The doctor, who we saw today, says it's mostly frustration about his world changing and not having the language to express it. Poor boy and poor us too! I never thought Charley would the the main reason we've been up at night for the last 2 months. Good ol' Sammy! He's sleeping better than Big Brother.
Charley starts his speech therapy at CHEO in a few weeks and hopefully he'll leave that program saying things like "Dear mother, I do despair at the arrival of the wee bundle of infant! Please, send him away posthaste!". They have assessed him as having above average comprehension skills, but waaaay far behind expressive skills. We'll hope this program jolts the right part of his brain and gets him chattering away.
Oh, and it's raining and cold today. Boooooooooooooooo!
So, yesterday I took this picture. I thought it would cheer me up and I knew a few individuals would find it amusing. I hesitate to post it here, because I don't wish to offend my dear readers. Please see the funny and not the blasphemous, 'k?
It is entitled "Sammy is holy on Sundays". Thanks to the nice folk who left the reading material in my mailbox.
In other health news, the boys are tall! Who would have guessed it possible? They were weighed and measured (including those big heads) at the dr.'s today. Charley is 85th % for height and Sammy is 97th % for height. Of course, Charley's is exactly average for weight, which makes him extra skinny considering his height. I guess he's following in my childhood super-skinny ways. (Oh, I remember being skinny! I don't think I'll ever have that title again.) Sammy, aka Super-Chub, is also at the top for weight, having gained 5 1/2 pounds in 7 weeks. Pretty darn impressive. He could slow up now though... I'm going to run out of clothes.
The doctor looked slightly alarmed when he measured Sammy's head, as it now charts in at a staggering 16.5 inches around. I simply gestured at Chris' head with my eyes and the doctor proceeded to measure Chris' head. That seemed to comfort him once he determined that Chris' head measurement doesn't even exist on the chart he had. Har har har. He actually said "once or twice a year I see someone with a head like yours... you know... that doesn't fit the parameters of normalcy". hee hee hee
I think this is enough writing for one day. The boys, big and small, are all snoozing away right now and I must sit and enjoy the silence for one micro-second. Ta ta!

I laffed and laffed when I read the part about Chris' head, but then I realized that my head would also fit outside the 'parameters of normalcy'... DOH!
Glad yer' man is home. By my scientific calculation, he owes you another ring.
Hi Lee!
I'm totally loving reading your blog! My fun neighbours have a 2 year old with another expected in August. Coincidentally, he also has a gigantic head.
Happy spring,
Julie
ps Do you have the amazingly mobile Higgi scalp? I noticed that uncle Charles has it and my dad does too. I wonder if it will re-appear in Charley's generation?
