A dilemna most would want to have.

Let me start by saying the fact that I have this problem at all, means that I am a very lucky person.

In a few weeks, I will be joining my hub on a trip to NYC for the National Magazine Awards. My lovely parents-in-law will be caring for my children, and the hope is that they will be fine in my absence. (I'm not at all worried about Charley who is shockingly easy-going, but Sam is just a baby and a bit of a momma's boy to boot).

So I must deal with the idea of leaving them for 2 whole nights, and I must also come up with some clothing to wear to a night out on the town. An NYC night on the town.

Now, I have a policy of wearing mostly second-hand clothing. My kids have also adopted this philosophy (like they have a choice...ha ha). This satisfies my recycling urge and my rabid thriftiness. Plus, I hate shopping. Especially in a mall.

I realize, however, that I must suspend this policy for a night in order to look semi-decent for our dinner outing. (Or find something faaaa-bulous in a second-hand store. It's possible...).

Chris, in fact, has said "go out and buy myself a whole new outfit" which is very generous, but is also probably born of the fear that I might wear my "comfy pants" to see his boss.

With truly no idea where to start, I visit the Elle Canada website for an idea on this season's trends.

Here is what I came up with:

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

Glam library chic (Hmmm I do loooove a library...):

???

Apparently it's super-hip to go out with half a skirt and no supportive undergarments.

You can see that this has helped me not at all and, in fact, made me worried that I might have to look someone with half-a-skirt and boobs-gone-awry in the eye and seem composed.

So, to all the women (or men!) I know who would love the task of buying an entire new outfit for an NYC night on the town, I ask for guidance and suggestions (preferably both sane and not involving an enormity of sequins).

My fashion fate rests with you. I'm in a bit of a pickle being both short on time and located in a town that lacks a fashionable vibe. (Sorry Ottawa but it's true. But! if I wanted a smart pair of khakis and a nice sweater set, it's you I'd visit.)

No news here. We are slowly recovering from the week o' barf (and worse) and hoping for a calm and healthful week ahead.

Later, my personal stylists.
