A love note to NYC

Sigh.

We're back from 3 days in the greatest city in the world. I always have high expectations of my visits there, and they're always fulfilled and surpassed.

Chris thinks it's crazy that I love it so much, you know... being a bumpkin and all, but I do, do, do.

We had a great time and the main purpose of our visit was a great success. Yes, that's right! The big man is a WINNER! I can't tell you what a huge deal this is. Now, officially it's the magazine that wins the award, but make no mistake! This was an award for Chris' great story. He won Feature Article of the Year and I couldn't be more proud, happy and full of woo-hoo! The fact he has won two now puts him in a club of a small handful of magazine writers (about 3, I think).

Primpin'

We had a great time celebrating with the Esquire gang. Esquire took home 3 awards in total and that's the best of the night.

Here are the awards, so regally treated, at the bar afterwards.

I was out later than I have been in years and, although I'm awfully tired today, it was completely worth it.

The night before the awards Esquire's editor in chief, David Granger, took us out for dinner. We ate at Convivio. Very yummy and definitely the best red wine I've ever had. It was the first time I've ever heard of Tudor City and it's quite a beautiful corner of the city.

I spent most of thursday by myself in the Chinatown/SoHo/Village area. It was great and I hit all the places I wanted to see, including Pylones, My Plastic Heart, The Doughnut Plant, the original Kiehls and this very crazy store where you can buy bones, fossils, freeze dried animals and human skeletons: The Evolution Store.

So much fun.

I also decided that this trip wasn't about taking "pretty" pictures of New York, (because there are enough of those in the world), so I sought out the grimey, gritty corners and took these:

That's a LOT of bests...

So, to conclude, I heart NY. It's a cliche and I'm quite okay with that.

These dudes were the last thing I saw before leaving town yesterday. They made me smile.

Glad to be home. Marilyn did a great job and the boys had lots of fun.

Chris has left already (12 hours at home!) for his next trip, so I'll just have to hold on to the memories of this fun week while I'm here alone.

Out to enjoy the sun.
